A Simple Gift That Saves Lives: Mosquito Nets for 3,000 People

The word crisis can mean many different things to many different people. If you live along the Gulf Coast of the U.S., crisis might mean “hurricane.” If you are in the Middle East, crisis might mean “war” or “conflict.” And if you live in Thailand, a crisis looks like the spread of a potentially deadly disease.

Communities in this Southeast Asian nation are experiencing a severe outbreak of Dengue Fever. This mosquito-borne illness can be especially problematic for children, who often have weaker immune systems.

Worldwide, between 20,000 and 40,000 people die every year from Dengue Fever. And in tropical and sub-tropical areas of the world like Thailand where cases are most common, mosquito nets are the simplest and most effective way to protect people from infection.

In response to Thailand’s recent Dengue Fever outbreak, a Send Relief project provided mosquito nets to an estimated 3,000 people. They were distributed through local churches to families living in highly affected areas. These are places with very few Christians.

Through this project, our team built relationships with village leaders, and those relationships opened the door for a gospel witness. Families in these communities were able to hear about Jesus, and now, twelve people have accepted Christ!

There is still much work left to do in these and other communities. Doors are opening to meet needs and see God change lives not just in Thailand, but in places all over the world where Send Relief teams are responding to crises of all kinds.
