Three Ways to Respond to a Disaster with Compassion

By Send Relief Staff

No community is immune from disaster. Storms, fires, shootings, or floods bring shock and loss. When they come, the church does not need to have all the answers, but we can respond with the compassion of Jesus. Here are three simple ways every church can begin:

  1. Grieve with those who are hurting. Crises and disasters always involve loss.
  2. Pray together. In the chaos of crisis, prayer reminds us we are not alone. It lifts our eyes to the God who holds every situation in His hands.
  3. Offer true hope. Physical relief is vital, but ultimate hope comes only from Christ. Be ready to point people to the healing grace found in Him.

Disaster will come, but compassion can be ready. The local church, rooted in Christ, is uniquely positioned to walk with people in their deepest need.
